Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids Receives $25,000 Challenge Grant from Art Van Furniture
Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids announces its selection as a recipient of one of 50 Challenge Gifts from Art Van Furniture’s Million Dollar Charity Challenge.
Through this challenge grant, Art Van Furniture will match up to $25,000 in contributions received in support of the Foundation’s 2009 Annual Fund Campaign, which funds the organization’s full spectrum of support to kids who have lost a parent.
Art Van Furniture initiated the Million Dollar Charity Challenge in honor of its 50th anniversary and is providing a total of one million dollars to fund 50 grants varying from $5,000 to $50,000. The grants have been allocated to support Michigan programs that serve children and health organizations, among others.
“This grant opportunity provided by Art Van Furniture is a powerful motivator for all of us to make this year’s Annual Fund Campaign the most successful one yet,” said Norman A. Yatooma, founder and president of Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids. “Each year our aim is to help more families recover from grief, fulfill basic needs and realize their life potential. The generosity bestowed upon this Foundation by Art Van Furniture through this grant will help us support many more kids and families in our community who are now living without mom or dad.”
Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids is a non-profit organization bringing emotional, educational, employment, social and financial stability to families of children who have lost one or both parents to death. Norman Yatooma created the Foundation after his father’s tragic murder in 1993 to help other children and families who are struggling with the death of a parent.
The monies raised through the 2009 Annual Fund Campaign help the Foundation provide services such as grief counseling; needs-based financial assistance that provides help with food, utilities, rent/mortgage payments, transportation and other basic needs; mentorship; educational summer camp experiences for kids; tuition assistance and job placement; family togetherness experiences and much more.
Also this year, each donor who gives $25 or more to the Annual Fund Campaign will be entered into a special raffle to receive a $500 Art Van Furniture gift card.
At the core of the Foundation’s mission is remembrance of family members lost, as well as family members still alive. As such, the Foundation encourages individuals to make donations in memory or honor of a loved one, which can be acknowledged with a special tribute card sent to a designated recipient.
Annual Fund Campaign contributors who give at leadership levels will become members of the Foundation’s newly-established giving societies.
