GREENE 911 TRANSCRIPTS ARE DUE IN 2 WEEKS: New deadline is set by a federal judge
The City of Detroit has two weeks to provide transcripts of 911 dispatch tapes to attorneys for the family of slain exotic dancer Tamara Greene, a federal judge ruled Monday.
U.S. District Magistrate Judge Steven Whalen’s decision came as part of a hearing where Greene family attorneys argued that the city wasn’t complying with demands for information.
It’s the latest step in a lawsuit by Greene’s family claiming Detroit police thwarted her 2003 death investigation because she was rumored to have danced at a party at the Manoogian Mansion in the fall of 2002.
Greene family attorneys need additional information, including 911 transcripts from a four-month period in 2003, when the party is rumored to have happened, to help prove their case, said Robert Zawideh, one of the attorneys.
Zawideh also is seeking 2003 home phone records for Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, particularly calls placed from him to former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, former city chief operating officer Conrad Mallett, city lawyer Ruth Carter and former Wayne County Prosecutor Michael Duggan.
The family has expressed concern that Cox, who later called reports of the party “urban legend,” did not take the investigation seriously.
The lawyers already have received office and cell phone records for Cox.
Zawideh also is seeking various legal records from Kilpatrick. Whalen said he would rule later on those requests.
Cox’s lawyer, Frank Monticello, said it’s not clear what phone company serviced the Cox home in 2003.
Kilpatrick’s lawyer Michael Naughton said the former mayor’s legal records already had been reviewed and found irrelevant because they had to do with potential criminal defense strategy and “nothing to do with Tamara Greene.”
