KILPATRICK LAWYER SEEKS TO STEP DOWN: James Thomas Asks To Withdraw As Counsel In Tamara Greene Family Lawsuit
DETROIT — Attorney James Thomas, who has represented former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick in a number of court cases, has asked to step down from a federal court case.
Local 4 Defenders confirm that Thomas filed a motion to withdraw as Kilpatrick’s counsel in the lawsuit brought by the family of the late Tamara Greene.
Green was an exotic dancer who was killed in a 2003 drive-by shooting on Detroit’s west side. The murder case remains unsolved.
Rumors persist that Greene performed at a party held at the mayor’s Manoogian Mansion residence a year earlier.
Greene’s family has sued the city, Kilpatrick and several other city and police officials, alleging they interfered with the investigation of the murder.
Thomas represented Kilpatrick throughout the city text message scandal, which ended with a guilty plea and a jail sentence for Kilpatrick.
Thomas was not available Wednesday evening to comment on motion to withdraw from the federal case.
